Olen keräilijä. Kerään maasta kauniin kiven. Rannalta useamman. Metsässä maa on täynnä kauniisti kelottuneita männyn oksia. Haluaisin viedä ne kaikki kotiini, mutten vie. Joten otan niistä kuvan. Tai kymmenen kuvaa. Kuten unet, pienet arkipäiväiset sattumukset haihtuvat mielestäni, jos en niitä minnekään kiinnitä. Toisaalta nautin suunnattomasti myös voidessani rakentaa haluamani kaltaisen kuvan alusta loppuun itse. Aina tarkkailijan rooli ei riitä.

Minulle tyypillistä, niin taiteentekijänä kuin ihmisenä, on olla samanaikaisesti kiinnostunut monenlaisista asioista ja tekemisen muodoista. Pääpaino on kuitenkin valokuvassa. Kuvaaminen erilaisilla välineillä on minulle tapa olla olemassa. Teoksissani pohdin itseäni suhteessa muuhun maailmaan. Mietin paikkaani maailmassa ihmisenä luonnon kiertokulun keskellä. Maapallon aikaan suhteutettu lyhyt elämämme koostuu pienistä hetkistä. Olen kiinnostunut juuri näistä välähdyksistä ja arkisista asioista, ja ne ovat aina vähintäänkin lähtökohta teosteni taustalla.

I am a collector. I see a beautiful stone on the ground and I pick it up. On a beach, several of them. In the woods the ground is layered with beautifully dried pine branches. I want to take them all home with me but I don't. I take a photograph. Or ten. As dreams, the seemingly mundane occurrences easily vanish from remembrance, if not attached to anything. On the other hand, I greatly enjoy being able to construct a photo from scratch. The role of an observer just isn't always enough.

It is characteristic of me – as an artist as well as a person – to be simultaneously interested in many kinds of things and ways of working. However, the main focus of mine is in visual arts. Photographing with different tools is my way to exist. In my artworks I reflect myself in respect of the rest of the world. I am contemplating my place as human being in the world, in the middle of the natural life cycle. Our lives, which are short with respect to the age of the globe, consist of short moments. I am strongly interested in these glimpses and the mundane things – and those form the basis behind my artworks.
