Tutkin saarta, jossa vietin nuoruusvuosieni kesät. Pieni saari, toisten pienten saarten ympäröimänä. Lauttamatka saarelle irrottaa minut nykyhetkestä ja eristää minut muista. Hiljaisuus pakottaa kohtaamaan kipeimpiä ajatuksia. Valokuva on työvälineeni.

Kokonaiskuva rakentuu paloista. Taiteellisessa työssä tutkin valokuvan suhdetta identiteetin rakentumiseen ja siihen, miten valokuva vaikuttaa muistoihimme.

The island where I spent the summers of my youth. A little island, surrounded by many little islands. Only a ferry ride away, it enables me to leave the now and isolate myself from the others. Silence forces me to face the most painful thoughts. Photography is my medium. I use photographs to prove what has happened. A moment captured in a photograph is only momentary. Inevitably, it is part of history. As long as it is my island, I need to spend time there. I need to capture it to make it last. In winter, it is not my island. It belongs to someone else. It has to be explored.

Photographs allow you to stop and capture the visible for analysis. That truly fascinates me. It is difficult to see the whole picture as we see everything in fragments. Pieces are needed to complete an image. My focus is to research how photographs relate to our identities, and especially how photographs affect our memories.
